Epiphone Sparkle Green Limited Edition, Korean Made. 1997
What the Epiphone Korean Sparkle / Green Sparkle LP Is
In the mid‑to‑late 1990s, Epiphone (then owned by Gibson) released a small limited run of sparkle‑finish Les Paul‑style guitars that were made in Korea (typically at the Saein or Peerless factory). This run included several sparkle finishes such as:
-
Green Sparkle (rare)
-
Blue Flake
-
Red Flake
-
Silver Flake
-
Gold Flake
-
Purple Sparkle (especially collectible)
These guitars are essentially Les Paul Standard‑type epiphones built with:
-
Mahogany body with a maple cap
-
Set mahogany neck + rosewood fingerboard
-
Alnico Classic / Classic Plus humbuckers
-
Tune‑O‑Matic bridge & stopbar
-
Typical scale of ~24.75″ and 22 frets.
The Green Sparkle versions are less common on the used market than some other colours, making them desirable to collectors and players who like striking finishes.
Important: These are Made in Korea — mostly from around the mid‑1990s, and not to be confused with modern Chinese Epiphones. The Korean builds from that era are often viewed as well made and solid players.
